Bass Fishing Lake Structures: Docks
In this article, we will be discussing the topic of docks and pontoons in bass fishing. Docks can provide excellent fishing opportunities, especially during the hot summer months when fish seek shade. One effective bait for fishing under docks is the Senko Wacky Rig. This bait is weightless and can be side caste and skipped right under the docks, where it will float down to the target area. The fish find it irresistible and can’t resist biting it.
To fish with the Senko Wacky Rig, cast it to the dock and let it float all the way down to the bottom. Once it reaches the bottom, jig it hard to make it bounce and attract the fish’s attention. Continue this technique until you are out from underneath the dock. This bait is particularly effective in shallow water, where fish seek shade during the hot summer months.
Don’t make the mistake of only fishing the ends of the dock. Work the entire dock, as there may be bass hiding in different areas, such as the weed lines and other little pulls across the dock. Cast to different parts of the dock and don’t be afraid to skip the bait right under it. You may be surprised at the fish you can catch by exploring different areas of the dock.
One of the highlights of dock fishing is the excitement of skipping the bait under the dock and watching the fish strike. It requires skill and precision to make accurate skips, but the payoff can be worth it. The Senko Wacky Rig is a great bait for this technique, as it can be easily skipped and has a natural floating action that entices the fish.
Be sure to watch the video for a massive strike, and one of our biggest catches of the year measuring at 20 inches.
Next time you’re out on the water, give dock fishing a try and see if you can land a big one. Happy fishing!
