Lake Structures: Pencil Reeds & Cattails

Fishing pencil reeds and cattails are a blast, and one of my favorite lake structures to fish. I've caught some of my biggest bass in these areas.

Tips for Bass Fishing Pencil Reeds & Cattails

  • Try the Ribbit Frog. It's my favorite lure to fish in the reeds and cattails. I rig it up Texas style.
  • Cast your Ribbit Frog into the weeds, fronts of the weeds and in pockets of weeds.
  • If you aren't getting any hits, let your frog sit there for a little bit and slow down your retrieve.
  • Reeds are thinner, stay back as far as you can to not spook the bass. Cast high and long.
